Why Ireland? | Wandering thru Ireland

Most people have heard of the Appalachian Trail. A 2,200 mile hike that stretches Georgia to Maine. Many hike portions of it through the years, others thru-hike the 2,200 mile stretch. A feat that takes 4-6 mos. to accomplish. The trail was growing in popularity over the years, however, Covid and YouTubers, have sent the trail into popularity tailspin. Now I bring this up for two reasons. First, thru-hikers of the past used to seek out the App Trail to find solitude. Second, there is geological evidence that shows the Appalachian Mountains (i.e., Central Pangean Mountains) extend into several countries before the great Pangea Continent broke apart. Today, trails exist many European countries, including Ireland. You can read More on the IAT

Northern Ireland is part of the IAT. The trail begins at Slieve League (that's SHLEEVE) in the Repulic of Ireland and ends just north of Belfast in the UK, The 294 mi trek takes approximately 25 days to complete.

I choose this as my launch point and challenge for many reasons. The short of it is, I love backpacking and travel. So what better way to experience Ireland than afoot on this trek? On June 13, 2022, I started my trek by climbing what the locals call the Grey Mountain.
